I’ve used Rakuten since 2019, but this and last year have been terrible. Every time I try to buy using PayPal, I get sent back to the start or see errors like “no permission.” I’ve cleared cache, reinstalled, and even contacted support — nothing helped. It’s frustrating, even when cashback is good. Thinking of switching to a more reliable app.

Unable to add local stores and restaurants to app. Get apps something went wrong message. You can register only on the app for restaurants. This error prevents you from earning points when dining out in the restaurant. I loaded the app on more than one phone in hopes of fixing this without success. No help on their website or chat. Reddit has several threads with others having same issue. Starting to believe it is a scam to force you to do online only orders.

We are aware of an issue impacting certain Visa, Mastercard, and American Express branded cards from being able to be enabled for use in the In-Store and Dining programs. Our development team is working on a solution, but is unsure when it will be resolved at this time. Please email us at socialhelp@rakuten.com so we can look into your account.

The app works or it doesn't. Rakuten in general is great, especially with the desktop add-on. The app only works correctly sometimes. I've reinstalled and cleared cache and it still only partly works. Sometimes I can't get into any profile/account info. Sometimes the biometrics don't work. Currently I can't see any history, it shows my last trip was 2023 (which is not true.)

Thank you for this feedback. The biometrics function is a feature of your phone. Once activated, our app may take advantage of it to verify your identity when accessing certain parts of our app. You can find a complete list of all Shopping Trips under the My Account (the person icon) section.
